Abstract

Thirteen tomato genotypes were evaluated to estimate variability, heritability and genetic advance in yield and yield contributing characters at AICRP on vegetable crop, M.P.K.V., Rahuri. A high degree of significant variation was observed for all the characters studied except pericarp thickness and number of locules. A highest GCV was observed for fruit yield per plant and PCV for fruit yield per plant and number of locules while lowest GCV was noticed for days to first harvest, days to 50 per cent flowering and pericarp thickness and PCV for days to first harvest and days to 50 per cent flowering. High heritability with high genetic advance as per cent of mean was observed for fruit yield per plant and average fruit weight which could be improved by simple selection.

Abstract

Friedreich's ataxia (FA) is an autosomal recessive inherited disorder, characterised by degeneration of the sensory neurons in the spinal cord, posterior column (tract of Gall and Burdach), pyramidal tracts. We report a case of 13 year old girl, known case of type 1 diabetes mellitus, with progressive difficulty in walking, absent deep tendon reflexes in bilateral lower limb, bilateral extensor plantar, scoliosis, pes cavus deformity, T inversion in inferior limb leads and with normal fundus and other lab investigation. Her EMG-NCV study showed axonal and demyelinating neuropathy in lower limb with gene analysis testing for frataxin showing homozygous GAA repeat (60 in number) confirming the diagnosis of Friedreich's ataxia. On eliciting the family history similar complaints were also present in 2 out of 3 siblings of the patient.

Abstract

A simple, sensitive, precise and accurate HPTLC method has been developed for the simultaneous estimation of the ciprofloxacin and ornidazole in tablets. The stationary phase used was precoated silica gel 60F₂₅₄ plate. The mobile phase used was a mixture of n-butanol:ethanol:8M ammonia (5:0.5:1.5, v/v/ v). The densitometric scanning was carried out at 315 nm. This system was found to give compact spots for ciprofloxacin (R_f value of 0.25 0.004) and ornidazole (R_f value of 0.82 ± 0.007). The method was validated in terms of linearity, accuracy, precision, limit of detection, limit of quantification and specificity in accordance with the ICH guidelines. The calibration curve was found to be linear between 40 to 140 ng/spot for each ciprofloxacin and ornidazole with significantly high value of correlation coefficient (r₂ > 0.99). The limit of detection and quantitation were found to be 10.01 and 33.03 ng/spot, respectively for ciprofloxacin and the limit of detection and quantification were found to be 7.62 and 25.15 ng/spot, respectively for ornidazole. The results of analysis have been validated statistically and by recovery studies. The proposed HPTLC method can be successfully applied in the routine analysis of commercial pharmaceutical tablets.

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted to study the response of different organic manures (FYM, castor cake and vermicompost) and spacing (30 cm × 15 cm, 30 cm × 30 cm, 30 cm × 45 cm and 30 cm × 60 cm) on growth, yield quality and economics of Kalmegh Panchang as well as on soil properties in inceptisol under Kharif season from 2007-08 to 2009-10 at Medicinal and Aromatic Project, Anand Agricultural University, Anand. The results revealed that the effect of organic manures and spacing were found non-significant for growth parameters, yield and quality of crop. However, higher values of yield components and economics of the crop were recorded under treatment combinations M₂S₁ and M₁S₁, respectively. Slight improvements in chemical properties was observed due to continuous application of organic manures under study.
